Proses turning adalah proses pembentukan benda kerja dengan mengurangi material (material removal). Pengurangan material dilakukan pada benda kerja yang berputar dengan alat potong (pahat) yang bergerak secara linear (melintang, memanjang, atau membentuk sudut), sehingga benda kerja yang dihasilkan umumnya memiliki penampang berbentuk lingkaran.
