I am looking a buying a new mll, probably from Grizzly. I am not looking for a bridgeport, too big for my room. I only need a smaller mill. I've narrowed it down to a G0704 or the G0463. Both are the same price but the 704 comes with stand. I know the 463 weighs much more but the 704 is a clone of the BF-20 which has much support.

I built my own belt drive for my G0704 - here is the thread on that project. It was not too difficult and so far is working nice. It can be built using nothing more than a mini-lathe and the mill itself. A rotary table helps but is not completely necessary. Cost was less that $100.

It's a decent mill for the price, but with the induction motor, it's for LIGHT duty only! Anything larger they about a 1/4" end mill, or a 1" face mill is over taxing the machine. I use mine primarily for folder work, and/or guard slotting. Personally, I have two mills, the G0704, and a large floor model Grizzly.

I wish I had known about them at first because their version of the Grizzly G0704 mill is much better and comes standard with belt drive, but at only slightly higher prices. I would have saved over 500 dollars if I had gone with PM. This machine still has quick change gear box, and D1-4 spindle.

I have a g0704, as well stepping up from a cnc'd taig (and x2 before that). Still manual for now. Its been great, huge step up from the taig, for example cutting steel isn't something I have to really baby anymore. I do plan on modifying it -- belt drive, cnc, likely an automatic draw bar at some point for tool changes.
